NEWTOWN’S FIRST SATURDAY EVENT on SATURDAY, MAY 4: Take a stroll through historic Newtown on for First Saturday.  Many Newtown stores and restaurants will be having special discounts and events for the day, including The Tubby Olive! Local chocolatier Laurie Douglas, of Laurie’s Chocolates in Buckingham, PA, will be our Guest Chef from 2-4PM. Laurie has been a chocolatier for nearly 12 years, and uses fresh, local ingredients.  She was the 2012 and 2013 winner of “Best Chocolatier” on the Bucks Happening web magazine.  Her balsamic truffles have won awards at national and local candy shows.  Visit her website at http://laurieschocolates.com/ to learn more about her delicious products.

Baklouti Green Chili olive oil is made by crushing organic extra virgin olive oil and fresh whole Tunisian Baklouti chili peppers. This pepper is unique to the Barbary coast of North Africa. ENJOY DELICIOUS CINNAMON PEAR BRUSCHETTA**

Pear Bruschetta The Tubby OliveRoasted Cinnamon Pear Bruschetta
1 whole grain baguette, sliced into rounds

1Tbsp. butter

3 whole pears, chopped, (Red Bartlett works well)

¼ tsp. salt

1 pinch nutmeg

½ c. mascarpone

1 tsp. honey

2 Tbsp. The Tubby Olive Cinnamon Pear Balsamic

Preheat oven to 400. Lay baguette rounds on baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and toasted. Set aside. Heat a skillet over medium-low heat and add butter. Add pears, then sprinkle with salt and nutmeg. Allow to caramelize slowly for about 10-15 minutes. In bowl, combine mascarpone and honey. Spread on baguette slices. Once pears are caramelized, add Cinnamon Pear Balsamic and cook for 1-2 more minutes. Add spoonfuls of pear mixture on top of the mascarpone. These can be served warm or cold.
